In police work, canines are hugely significant force multipliers — and the numbers don’t lie. The Lansing Building Search study in Michigan showed that a building search for two bad guys with two-man teams of patrol officers recorded a 59-percent success rate in locating the individuals. Compare that to a K9 unit, boasting a 93-percent success rate and requiring a fraction of the time to conduct the search.

SAN LUIS, Colo. (CBS4)- War dogs have been getting a lot of attention following the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan, and their importance is crucial.

“They’re considered a member of the team,” said Close Quarter Battle K-9 School owner Alex Dunbar.

Dunbar trains German Shepards from Slovakian blood for the military, police forces, and for personal protection. His training site is in southern Colorado, just south of the small town of San Luis.

Canine Armor from CQB K9

The charming lady in the picture below is Beátka CQB K-9 – though you would not know it from her demure expression, she has titanium teeth. The vest she is wearing is a new K9 body armor from CQB K9. According to CQB K9’s Alex Dunbar (pictured below rappelling with K9 ‘Bear’), the vest is manufactured of Spectra-Gold. It’s Level III-A, and this one was made in desert digi (Cordura) for high altitude desert operations. This is a proprietary CQB K9 design used by police K9s and MWD (Military Working Dogs) around the world.

They’re called war dogs, and they’re playing a crucial role in the U.S. military.

When the Navy SEALs raided Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan, they had a specially trained canine with them. Nearly 3,000 active duty dogs are serving in the armed forces now.

Could Navy SEAL Dogs Be Used in the War on Drugs?

October 05, 2019 by

Gizmodo has a write-up on the “badass” Navy SEAL dogs used in the operation to kill Osama bin Laden:

Navy SEAL dogs are badasses, yes. But did you know some of them have titanium fangs, designed to rip through enemy protective armor?

That titanium grill runs $2,000 per tooth. The end result, US military dog trainer Alex Dunbar tells The Daily, is that being bitten is "like being stabbed four times at once with a bone crusher." Hard. Core.

As Radley Balko has pointed out before, some SWAT teams across America are already more militarized than the military. So my concern when I see this “badass” technology on these dogs is that it’s probably fairly easy to start equipping police dogs this way.

SURGICALLY ENHANCED SUPER-DOG EQUIPPED WITH TITANIUM TEETH

September 30, 2019 by

The Navy Seal team that killed Osama bin Laden was equipped with a surgically enhanced super dog equipped with titanium teeth able to bite through a bullet proof vest.

That is the opinion of top military dog handler and ex-US Marine Alex Dunbar, who has supplied his specially bred German Shepherds to the American military for 25 years.
